Cash in Hand Advice
What are the main forms of cash in hand employment a person could secure for themselves in a city like London? (Don't say prostitution lol)
Where would a person go to establish contacts for work? I imagine the backpacker grapevine helps out when you get there.
Anyone care to share their cash in hand experiences?

Be more specific. Where? What are you willing to do (nothing illegal)? part-time, full time?

Ummm as I mentioned above: London lol
As for types of work. I don't want to get too specific but lets rule out male dominated types of work such as labour/trades because lets face it I'm a chick and unfortunately for me I don't know how to build anything lol.

I imagine pulling pints and domestic cleaning are popular but are there any others that kind of dominate the cash in hand scene?

Well, England is a tough one! Try hostels first. But literally, it's quite difficult there because they have such ridiculously difficult working visa regulations. You speak english which is good, but you might want a fair wage, and they can pay Ukrainians to work for cheaper! But if you;re Aussie, there is a huge population there and I am sure you could find an Aussie pub and get in with them to help find a job. Good luck!

Anything in the service industry, bar work, restaurant or cafes. Also try festivals and concert security. I've done this s few times and the people working there weren't very well monitored. Allot of students. Good luck getting paid though, I'm still waiting to get paid from the 3 times I did it. you may get some free food and of course free entry to the concert, it is fun though, when I did it they put me in the rolling stones dressing room and I got to meet them all.

I arrived in Galway last Halloween in the early afternoon. I walked around town for a little while and then found the hostel on Quay St - when I walked in the check in, there was a guy who ran various tours around town from the visitor's center. He was looking for someone to run around town and dress up in costumes at different points of the tour.
I had a job for the afternoon before I even got a bunk. I made 30 euro and a free pint of Guinness for three hours of work, and had a blast. There's nothing like running around a town you don't know in facepaint and a plastic cape, and hanging out in pubs with a fake battle axe with a burlap sack on your head and getting paid for pretending to decapitate bar patrons. It was the best Halloween EVER.
