Default Ireland in sight

We're traveling to Ireland in May or June, need tipes on Hostels sight seeing and what not to bother with. Is there a train from Dublin to Gallway?
Are Hostels safe?

Galway is safe it's a fairly small city full of collage students so most crime is drink related tomfoolery.

There is a train from Dublin to Galway but it's very expensive, €40 return I think. You can get a citylink bus for between $12 - $18. Bus takes 3 and a half hours max and their nice brand new buses.

What kind of stuff are you looking to see in Galway? Beaches, countryside, pubs, we've loads and loads of pubs, shopping, buildings.

You'll want to see the cladagh village, the Spainish arch, all the pubs, Silver strand.

see the country, shops, pubs and music. anywhere to skateboard in Ireland? I'm wondering if I should bother bringing it. I'd like to come over with as little possible so we have little to slow us down or store away.

There are a few skateboarders around Galway but I don't know if there's a skateboard place (there's a proper name for them isn't there?). They seem to just skate around the streets and down by the spainish arch.

There are paddywacker tours of connemara and you should spend a night on the Aran Islands for countryside. Every 2nd building in Galway is a pub so that's easy enough, the good ones are Sally longs, Roisin dubh, the Quays, THe Kings head, You'll probably end up in bar cuba at some stage anyway.

The more traditional pubs will have Irish music (trad), while Roisin dubh has bands (it's a fairly well known venue in Ireland, so it gets good music).

i haven't been to galway, but in dublin I stayed at Avalon house and its pretty good. they have free internet and give you some toast and tea for breakfast. it also had a nice big kitchen. they have no bar and you can't drink there but in dublin where there's pubs absolutely everywhere, you don't want to spend all your time in the hostel bar anyway..
