Just thought I'd cross-forum this.
Here's the story of my travel development plan.
Lowdown is, I bought a ticket from Bangkok - Boston yesterday. I finish my China program in Shanghai on the 11th of December, and I fly out of Bangkok on the morn of the 6th of Jan...25 full days of glorious meandering. As of now, I have no clue how the hell I'm getting my ass 2000 miles overland from Shanghai to Bangkok...but I'll have to do it somehow, and that's what I'm inviting you guys to join me on. :D
Just gonna leave the option here for any tpunk who'd like to be my fellow adventurer. Think about it, there's plenty of time to plan.
Plan is to boot it hardcore fast through China (4 days max, most of that on a train). Two weeks in Vietnam, about 5 days in Cambodia, and a day in Bangkok for me before flying out the next morning...all that leaves a day to spare somewhere.
You know you want to do it

I think we're done around the 11th/12th of Dec...I'm going to train it down south to Guangzhou right away I think, so if you'd like to meet up there that might work too.
Plans are all fuzzy and undefined at the mo, but there will be updates! :D

The problem with going to HK is that I need another visa to get back into china, since I only applied for a single entry. I'll be in HK for a night this July, maybe I'll leave an easter egg for you to find at the end of the year instead.
We shall see...it's all up in the air for me at the mo, and there are sooo many possibilities

Well, just keep that in mind if you intend to go to HK and re-enter to mainland China
Some people I know got stuck in HK the day before their flight out of Shanghai and it was a very traumatic (and costly) experience for them trying to reapply for a visa. Haha.

I'm probably gonna train it straight to Nanning - Hanoi and then make my way down through Vietnam over two weeks.
