Rancho Tranquilo, Jiquilillo, Los Zorros, Nicaragua
This is my favorite hostel of all time!!!!!!! Its located on a desolate beach on the Northern Pacific coast near El Salvador... The owner is an American hippy lady and is cool as fuck!!! Where to begin... The dorm only has 4 beds and a sand floor... There are 6 tiki huts, some with bunks, some with 2 beds, etc... The shower/toilet facilities are amazing, she has a local Nica come over and cook all the meals. Every meal is $3 and everything is vegetarian. You can take surf lessons, or just hang out in a hammock at the bar cabana area right on the beach. The sand is black and the water warm.. The best skinny dipping nights you could imagine!!! I would suggest that everyone give this place a week of your travel time!!!!! Oh and I should mention the late night Glitter parties.... I wont explain, but if you go, ask Tina!!!!!

I need to add that Tina recently built another Dorm, so, the dorm capacity has grown a lot since my last visit... And the beach bar is just smoking badass these days!!!! Her place was also the editors pick in the 2009 Lonely Planet for Northern Pacific Nicaragua area!!!!!!!

Since this thread has had so many views I should mention, that Tina, the owner, my nica gringa momma, passed away... The hostel is still open and beautiful as ever, its just not the same as it was with Tina running it. Go, check it out, its in an amazing remote region of Nicaragua totally worth taking the time to see.
There are now several Nica woman that had worked for Tina since the Rancho opened that are running the place and they are very nice and will still take good care of you...
But sadly the glitter party has ended..
