Wira Hostel, Hamburg
My sister and stayed here for the night on the way to Berlin from Bremen. It is fairly centrally located and clean but whisper quiet. It was a good deal for the money at 9E a night but I have seen more lively nursing homes. The guy running the place sets the tone a bit by almost whispering as he shows you around. Shared showers and no 24 hour reception is a slight downer (I think it may be a one man operation right now)

I stayed there in July. I definitely didn't get a good deal as it was summer, but Hamburg was cool, overcast and windy at the time. UGH. I found it odd that this place was basically a typical german apartment turned into a hostel and that it had no common area, but it gets the job done i guess.

Thank for the review, guys! For the current price, I'll take it!
This sounds like a mellow place to decompress from a night out of partying, but not a place to party, like other hostels.
I guess it all depends on what fits your needs at the moment.
As for the steep July prices, just another reason why more than ever, one NEEDS TO BOOK AHEAD ONLINE if you'll be traveling during the main travel season June through early Sept!

I planned ahead by about two months and paid 30 USD for the room, which isn't really too bad, but it seemed bad because I was paying in USD online!
