yo sijuki.
nice article on your hometown. it's funny how we are so proud of our home that we could ramble on and on about it forever! I feel the same way don't worry.
When I think of Detroit I think of:
-eminem
-Red wings!
-Cars and more cars
-windsor, ontario
-industry
-I'm thinking of kidrock (is he from detroit too?or am i on crack)
-and more industry
That's so weird that you don't have public transit! (except for in the dt core) so you don't have any buses? And why the heck would you sell your trolley's to mexico city. stupid politicians.*

You know in your list you forgot a couple of things like ghetto palms, theaters, and beautiful architecture.
Granted most of the architectrue is in decay, mainly because the buildings are being taken apart and sent to other cities, eg the linwood lions, were removed from the building and sold to an apartment complex in Chicago.
Another great thing, steaming sewer caps, in the winter they keep you warm. but dont mind me Im just a rambling fool when it comes to my hometown

Alright, so its been a year and a half since I have posted anything on my wonderful hometown of Detroit, and boy oh boy has a lot been happening here in the D!
As you all know, we are hosting the Superbowl in January 2006, so not to be labeled the POS city we normally are, the city, state, and several business people have put forth an effort to rebuild the city as quickly as possible. While I put more of the work on the business people as the city and state have continued to fuss about what they want done.
But here is a list of some of the great improvements.
- They finally finished the Compuware HQ downtown, and finished the roundabout that is the center of the city. They installed an ice rink in the round-a-bout, mind you this is a pretty big round-a-bout so its ok.
- Woodward has been decked out in beautiful landscaping, and they have done an excellent job replacing the facade and interiors on the building in the area.
- Several downtown building have been slated for renovation into residential and commercial space, so if any of it comes through it will be a blessing.
- Detroit opened its first downtown theatre in probably 10 years... at the Ren Cen. Although I hear its a pain to get to.
- There is talk of a light rail commuter line from Detroit to Ann Arbor with a stop at Detroit Metro Airport. This would be a great step for Detroit.
- MGM Grand has broken ground on their permanent casino location which will include a 16 story 400 room hotel.
- Greektown announced plans to add 25,000 square feet of casino floor space and a 400 room hotel also. These will help solidify the casinos position in the city, and might actually attract a tourist or two.
There are several new developments going on, and its amazing how much different the city looks when I drive down there. The city is still dead after 6 or 7p.m. but with such persistence and the help of a couple sporting events, people might again to start coming downtown. I hope it works.
I will provide a link to a site, and there are other links to it. Just to make things easier, on me at least...
