getting around New England
Basically, if I got a greyhound from Toronto to say Boston and I wanted to see every state in New England, which is the best way to do this? Would I need to grey hound it to every state or are there local buses that are cheaper?

IMO, Greyhound would be your best bet in general. There are some smaller local bus lines around i.e. Concord Trailways in ME and NH that may get you to some other areas that Greyhound doesn't cover, but they might not necessarily be cheaper. The commuter rail out of Boston is a good way to get to Providence.
There are definitely local buses although they don't go as far (hence the "local", haha)...I've only taken some around Boston (mbta.com) and Rhode Island (ripta.com).
As always, it's unfortunately true that the best way of getting around here is with your own vehicle. Anyway, if you have more specific questions about particular places you're trying to get to, let me know.

hitchhike! I'm not sure if it's too safe around big cities but I hitched around all the small towns in new england on my Appalachian Trail Thru-hike and I had no troubles at all. if you have a pack, most people see you as a harmless traveler.
