What Religion do you believe in?
Self-Explanatory.
Sorry I'm trying to insert a poll, but for some reason I can't find the button... |
I don't follow any religion. I'm a firm non-believer.
|
Christian as a child, Agnostic as a teenager, and Atheist now.
|
All of them. Their all more or less the same anyway.
|
I was raised Catholic, currently Atheist.
|
I make my own religion. Anyone wanna join?
|
I fall somewhere between atheist and agnostic.
|
I've actually been having this conversation with a friend I met traveling this summer.
I was raised Catholic. Stopped going to Church (aside from holidays/weddings/funerals so as to not break my mom's heart) after Sophomore year of college. I honestly don't know what I believe in. I am not atheist, but I firmly believe that organized religion is seriously flawed. I try to be a good person, and I guess I'm constantly trying to figure out what I believe in. So basically, I have no freaking clue. |
I was raised some form of Protestant (a nice Lutheran-Methodist blend) and I can totally buy what they're trying to sell me as far as God and Jesus but I don't think the Bible is literal, I totally believe in evolution (duh, how can you not? ) and don't believe the world was made in 7 days as we know time to be now.
I don't go to church at all. Here's my whole religious deal... it's like the quote from Ghandi... "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians, they are so unlike your Christ." My exposure to Christians have been insane radicals and this is probably why I believe the way I do. I also do not believe a church should push a political agenda. I believe in God and science and a lot of Christians don't believe you can have both. I want both. I have both. So whatever. Everyone else can piss off. ;) |
I was never christened so I guess I've always been pretty religion-less but we celebrate christian holidays in a very Hallmark-y way... can that be a religion? christmas is about santa, presents and food... easter is about chocolate... a godparent is whoever the parent was best mates with at the time of the child's birth...
heh. |
I see myself as a non practicing Christian. I have a relationship with my God and Christ and believe alot in the Bible and other things in the Bible I do not take literally. I do not go to church but am Christian- Methodist.... I am very open minded though and respect all religions and love to get in conversations with others about their beliefs!
I was baptised as a baby and confirmed as a youth and after confirmation went on a World Religion Retreat around Dallas (my home town). We visited a Mosque, Krishna Temple, Bhuddist Temple, Jewish Temple, Greek Orthodox, Black Methodist Church, etc..... Great eye opening experience and got me wanted to travel (at age 13) |
Hmm... I still don't know how to insert a POLL into this thread, or where the "start POLL" button is.
At any rate I was baptized and raised a Roman Catholic, although since I've learned about Islam - as in... how is it possible that one of these groups is right and one is wrong? that's a lot of people going to hell on a bit - I've stopped believing in organized religion, but I do believe in something supreme out there named God, Allah, or some other name which cannot be understood by humans. The funny thing is the less I believe in formal religion, the more spiritual I have become. |
I have issues with organized religion. Baptized Catholic, raised "born-again", had an "atheist" period somewhere along the way. I'm mostly about tolerance and not having my views interfere with someone else's life. I don't know how I feel about a god, but I generally agree with deism on that front. Iunno. Mostly a humanist, though.
|
The answer is in the Eastern religions. Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, etc. Not necessarily the reincarnation principles, but the philosophy they hold.
|
Deism...funny story though...
The other day I was telling a girl at lunch about deism (she was raised catholic and was venturing away from it but keeping atheism at arm's length) and I told her I would like to one day build a deist cathedral. I started sketching it out (it would look like a brain with four spires) and as soon as I did a guy next to me tells me that he was sitting in church the other day and he felt like God told him that I needed some reassurance. He gave me a book mark that says God Answers Prayers. I had just finished sketching that when he came over. We have NEVER discussed religion before. Weird eh? --Joey |
Christian. By my own choice. But im not religious. I think no matter what religion/faith you are, its between you and your God. I am not ashamed to say im Christian, but normally leave the conversation there, unless somebody asks about Christianity. I definitly do not believe in pushing God onto people and being radical about anything, especially religion. I can honestly say that yes, I am a Christian, but I am also human. I swear, I drink, I do lots of things I shouldnt and if people want to be an ass and judge me on that, well thats their problem. Like I said, my faith is between me and my God.

As for the poll, go into "thread tool" (at the top of the thread) and scroll down until "add a poll to this thread". |
I'm not really into any of it. I was baptised protestant and went to church on Christmas and Easter as a kid, but haven't done that for a long time. I guess I'm more spiritual than anything.
|
I personally like Deism myself, I don't believe in God as having human attributes. I like the idea of God as being the law of physics. Basically nature is what created us and there is no need to pray and bow down to anyone. Some of the founding fathers of the US were actually desists, Washington, Jefferson, Paine, Franklin, and I believe the Adams bros. I think that spirituality is really something everyone should have to obtain on their own with their own experiences and beliefs.

Boooo
I was raised very liberal Mennonite christian...turned to paganism and Wicca when I was 11, and then turned to Islam when I was 18. I firmly believed in each of these , during the times that I was practicing them...but then something slapped me in the face and told me I was wasting my precious time.
Religion is nothing but a crutch. I don't believe you have to follow any set of rules written in an ancient book or even in anything contemporary..people make these rules, not some god. I don't even believe in god as a being. Please, that is a ridiculous man-made myth originating from a time when people didn't understand the natural laws of the universe and science. The only thing I feel sure of is that there is an interconnectedness (is that a word?) between all human beings, animals, plants, the stars, the earth, everything..there is some life force that flows through all and I believe that is what we should focus on. Tap into it in whichever way is most comfortable and intriguing for you - but set your own rules, and learn for yourself. |
